Hot and Dry in August

Are you desertifying?

Or are you cooling your corner of our planet?

I have written more about gardening lately, but today I will connect gardening and astrology. I doubt any of you will need me to tell you, it has been HOT. Records broken all over the place. Fires and smoke all over the place. Many of my friends have gotten electric vehicles, and I understand why, even though I have a different perspective.

This month of August 2026, will likely not be much, if any, cooler. And the eclipses will not help... yet. The solar eclipse will be conjunct the south node of the moon, Ketu, and the partial lunar eclipse later in the month will be conjunct the north node, Rahu, which I wrote about at the beginning of the year, and which I will repeat an abridged version of here: how it brings so much excitement wherever it goes that it can encourage addiction. Aquarius is all about technology, so you can see where this is going. Rahu shows us how far something can go, even though it can be out of balance, and reveals the downsides of taking things too far.

I have mentioned before that the data centers needed to support AI and other technologies require swimming pools of water every minute to cool the generators needed to run these servers. The water is not of good quality when they are done with it. During eclipses the dessicating qualities of all our electronics will be amplified. But with the full moon conjunct Rahu in Aquarius, I hope and believe that enough people will start seeing why we need to pump the brakes on AI.

Dr. Ibrahim Karim, founder of BioGeometry, talks about the quality of the electrical energy we use being akin to the dessicating aspects used for mummification near the Sahara desert. Those of you who are under water restrictions might find this easier to believe now. He also talks about them lending themselves very much toward left-brain thinking.

So, what are some solutions? There are tools that have been shown to decrease, block, and transform electro-magnetic fields to protect life, both from BioGeometry and elsewhere, and I would strongly encourage everyone to look into them or feel free to ask me for recommendations. But we cannot ignore our part whenever we choose to use AI - in addition to these data center impacts, it has been shown to be wrong much of the time as well as decrease the memories of those who use it.

The dessicating qualities of electronics and eclipses will also affect our gardens, and the way we garden will amplify or mitigate those qualities as well. Many people, trying to save water, rip out the plants in their yards and put in rock. This is desertification on a smaller, incremental scale. Their yards will be hotter and any trees will likely decline or die within 2-3 years.

When we keep, encourage, and increase the organic matter in our gardens, for every 1% of living organic matter in an acre of land, over a one foot depth of soil, 20,000 more gallons of water can be retained in that soil, and the surface temperature decreases by several degrees. This means that by allowing good plants to grow, we can alleviate warming in our own yards, and as long as we choose plants appropriate for our climates, we may never have to water them after they have a chance to establish themselves.

I have a lot of very low cost ways of doing this that I have implemented in my own garden areas. Check out my new options for consultations. I call my business Peregrine Alchemy by Amy because there are so many different ways to harmonize our environments and make them therapeutic, symbolized by the traveling pilgrim, or peregrine. Even if you are already on my email list, you can get 3 tips for creating your haven if you sign up again at AmyCarynJohnson.com. I am offering services geared more toward harmonizing our environs, mostly outdoors but also indoors.

I have a meetup group for those interested in checking out the kinds of activities, education, and guidance I may provide relative to landscapes: https://www.meetup.com/xeriscape-havens-meetup-group/ My next meetup will be a free class on Gardening with Children in late August. Check it out on meetup!

Many food crops need pollinators, yet the flowers on the crops themselves are often not enough to support the pollinators. By designing your garden to contain both food and year-round color, you ensure not only beauty, but a continuous supply of pollen for the pollinators on which much of our food depends. You can even incorporate...

Most people who have heard of xeriscaping pronounce it like "zero-scaping." And they essentially mean and believe that it calls for the removal of most plants. They see that we are in a severe drought here in Colorado and they think, screw it, I'm ripping out our grass and putting in rock. Then they look into it a bit more...

Happy Year of the Fire Horse! Happy New Year! It has been a while since I have written and not made a video. I have many updates to share with you, but first I'd like to reflect on some of the changes we are all experiencing recently and in the new year. You don't need me to tell you that AI is now everywhere. This is to be expected as the north eclipse point of the moon, Rahu, entered Aquarius last year. The thing about Rahu is that it brings so much excitement wherever it goes that it can...
